GAME PREVIEW
FRANCE and Mexico started their World Cup campaigns with draws against Uruguay and South Africa respectively. France’s performance was below their normal standards as coach Raymond Domenech seemed to get his tactics wrong and Les Bleus were unable to find a way through Uruguay’s defence. Mexico had a tough encounter against the hosts in the opening game of the tournament and showed their guile to snatch a draw after going a goal down. Both nations have twice before hosted the tournament. However only France have won it. Meetings between the two have yielded five wins for France and one draw with France scoring 15 goals to Mexico’s four. The group is wide open after the first round of matches and both teams will be looking to win the game and take control of the group. Mexico will be looking to inspirational defender/midfielder Refael Marquez and jet-heeled Giovani dos Santos to steer them past France who will be looking to the experience of Thierry Henry and Frank Ribery to lead them to victory. Although they have not won in their opening games both teams possess enough quality to progress well into the knockout stages. This encounter could well decide which team will progress.
